A bout that not only promises to be exciting in its own right, but also carries with it the possibility of opening the door for anyone to a title fight with Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
Munguia, with an impressive undefeated record of 42 wins and 33 knockouts, has made his mark as a former super welterweight world champion. Munguia sees Ryder as the opportunity to prove his power by not only winning, but looking for a knockout, something even Canelo did not accomplish.
"This was a great camp for all of us," Munguia said to media. "It will help me keep moving forward to achieve my goals.
"I know John Ryder is a tough fighter. He's lost and won close fights, but I'm ready. I'm ready to do this on Saturday. And viva Mexico!"
However, he is now looking to conquer new heights in the super middleweight division and is ready to do so, but first he must overcome an opponent of Ryder's stature. The Brit is a former 168-pound interim world champion, who earned respect by holding on for all 12 rounds against Canelo Alvarez in May of last year.
"It's been a fight that's been a long time in the making and I'm glad we're fighting," Ryder said to media. "I feel like the one I needed from the beginning.
In the co-main event, Puerto Rican Oscar "El Pupilo" Collazo (8-0, 6 KOs) will defend his WBO mini flyweight title against Nicaraguan Reyneris Gutierrez (10- 1, 2 KOs), and IBF world flyweight champion Gabriela "Sweet Poison" Fundora (12-0, 5 KOs) will defend her title in a 10-round bout against Christina Cruz (6-0, 0 KOs).
Jaime Munguia vs John Ryder is going to be a slugfest. Munguia (42-0, 33 KOs) is coming off a fight against Sergiy Derevyanchenko that was named Fight of the Year by Ring Magazine. It was a brutal war that saw both men take some serious punishment. Ryder (32-6, 18 KOs) is also coming off a brutal fight, albeit a more one-sided one. He hung in all 12 rounds with Canelo despite a wicked cut and a fifth round knockdown. We’re expecting a brutal fight between two heavy punchers with solid chins.

It’s clear I’m at the tail-end of my career," Ryder told Boxing News. "Like I said earlier, I just want to have the biggest and best fights. I’m not here for a long time; I’m here for a good time. Each fight could be your last. I want to fight the biggest and the best, and I don’t want to be going out in six-and-eight-rounders. I want to go out in a big fight against a big name in a 12-round contest.
